The Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE) is a prestigious national-level engineering entrance exam in India, consisting of two stages: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Main serves as a preliminary screening test to determine the candidates eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is the final examination for candidates seeking admission to the esteemed IITs. Each year, this examination is conducted to select candidates for various undergraduate and integrated postgraduate programs, including B.Tech, B.Pharm, B.Arch, Integrated M.Sc., and M.Tech courses.
JEE Main is an entry-level examination with a moderate difficulty level and consists of two papers.
JEE Advanced is a more challenging examination designed to assess candidates' comprehension and analytical abilities. It is a single-stage, objective-type examination consisting of two papers, each three hours in duration. Both papers include three sections covering Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The questions are designed to test the aptitude, comprehension, and analytical skills of the candidates.
The new selection process for IIT JEE includes two exams: the Main Test and the Advanced Test. These tests assess problem-solving abilities in the basic science subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each test is three hours long.
Only the top 1,50,000 candidates (including all categories) based on their performance in JEE Main will qualify to appear in the JEE Advanced examination. For admission to the IITs, candidates must rank among the top 20% of high scorers in their respective Class XII board examinations.
Given the significant weightage placed on Class XII board marks in this selection pattern, it is crucial for students to prepare thoroughly not only for the JEE exams but also for their board exams to ensure comprehensive readiness for the admissions process.
